Each registered domain name has no less than two Name Server records which show where it's hosted i.e. by using these records you point your domain address to the servers of a certain hosting company. That way, you have both your website and your emails managed by the same service provider. On the lower level of the Domain Name System (DNS), nevertheless, there are lots of other records, for instance A and MX. The former reveals which server manages the website for a given domain address and is always an IP address (123.123.123.123), while the latter shows which server deals with the e-mails and is always an alphanumeric string (mx1.domain.com). For example, when you enter a domain name in your browser, your request is sent through the global DNS system to the provider whose NS records the domain uses and from there you may be directed to the servers of another service provider in case you have set an IP address of the latter as an A record for your domain. Having separate records for the site and the emails means that you can have your site and your emails with two different providers if you'd like.

Custom MX and A Records in Web Hosting

If you have a web hosting plan through our company, you are going to be able to see, set up and modify any A or MX record for your domains. As long as a particular Internet domain has our Name Servers, you are going to be able to to change particular records by using our Hepsia hosting CP and have your site or e-mails pointed to any other provider if you would like to use only one of our services. Our sophisticated tool will allow you to have a domain hosted here and a subdomain below it to be hosted somewhere else by changing only its A record - this will not affect the main domain name at all. If you want to use the e-mail services of a different service provider and they want you to create more than 2 MX records, you can easily do that with just a few mouse clicks within the DNS Records section of your Control Panel. You may also set different latency for each MX record i.e. which one will have priority.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

Accessing and editing the A or MX records for each of your domains or subdomains is very easy if you buy a semi-dedicated server plan from us. The accounts are maintained by using our in-house built Hepsia Control Panel, which features a section devoted to the DNS records of your domain addresses. The latter is going to be listed alphabetically and you could click on any one of them to see both the A and the MX records. Modifying any record is as simple as entering the new one in a text box and saving the change, so even though you may have never dealt with such matters before, you simply won't experience any troubles if you choose to direct your website or emails to an alternative service provider while keeping the second service with our company. When required, you can also create additional MX records and set a certain priority based on the instructions of the new provider.
