Established in 1987, Italy’s .IT country-code TLD is really popular both within the country and in the English-speaking world. Because there are existing 2nd-level Domains that include names of various territories and localities in Italy reserved for local 3rd-level registrations, new names that include geographical areas of any sort are not permitted on any level to avoid any future confusion.
